Sophina (she/her) is a mother, wife, sister, daughter, high school counselor, and a lifelong learner. Born and raised in Berkeley, California, she is the product of two incredible parents who—despite their own struggles—never failed to nourish her dreams and encourage her growth.

Growing Empowered Minds in Spanish (GEMS Berkeley) is an initiative dedicated to building language confidence among Black students. By utilizing a culturally responsive curriculum, GEMS fosters a deep love for the Spanish language and empowers students to excel through inclusive, representative practices.
