Education for Liberation

P4L provides culturally-specific, concrete learning opportunities for Black parents to grow and hone their parenting practices. Our programming covers a wide range of topics: from eliminating violence in the home, to talking to kids about sex and consent, to the importance of joining broader movements for justice, and more.

Our Learning work includes:

  • Workshops & Retreats for Strong African American Families (SAAF) Program, a culturally relevant program designed for youth aged 10–15 and their caregivers.

  • Parenting for Liberation: A Guide to Raising Black Children Book

  • Parenting for Liberation Podcast is a monthly conversational podcast sharing liberated parenting strategies

Strong African American Families (SAAF) program

Parenting for Liberation hosts biannual cohorts of Black families for the Strong African American Families (SAAF) program, a 7 session culturally tailored, family-centered program for African American youth and their caregivers.
This program is designed for families with youth from the ages of 10 - 15. Families can earn a stipend of $50 per session attendance and up to $350 for the full program completion. To learn more email education@parentingforliberation.org

Parenting for Liberation:
A Guide for Raising Black Children

Speaking directly to parents raising Black children in a world of racialized violence, this guidebook combines powerful storytelling with practical exercises, encouraging readers to imagine methods of parenting rooted in liberation rather than fear.

Parenting for Liberation: A Guide for Raising Black Children fills a critical gap in currently available, timely parenting resources. Rooted in an Afrofuturistic vision of connectivity and inspiration, the community created within these pages works to image a world that amplifies Black girl magic and Black boy joy, and everything in between.

  • The information we covered can be beneficial to families and I'm eager to share it with our community as it's long over due. Our intentions are good but we just never had the information before.
