Parenting For Liberation Celebrates 10 Years of Making Home for Black Parents and Families in Los Angeles
At Parenting For Liberation, we practice what we preach: Love and resistance. Intergenerational healing. Grounding ourselves and providing resources to uproot oppression. Family fun and joy!
Since its founding in 2016 by Trina Greene, Parenting For Liberation has been more than just an organization that embodies these actions; it’s been a movement! What started as a dream to create a "living room" for Black families to breathe, imagine and practice liberation has grown into a powerful ecosystem that has supported 10,000 Black families nationally and internationally with programs and opportunities that strengthen Black families and disrupt generational harm. To commemorate its 10th year, Parenting For Liberation is proud to present its anniversary art exhibit, HOMEPLACE: Home as a Site of Love & Resistance for Black Families.
HOMEPLACE celebrates Parenting For Liberation’s work of uplifting and strengthening Black mothers, fathers and caregivers to raise joyful, liberated children. With art, storytelling, landscape design and gathering, HOMEPLACE celebrates the beauty, complexity and possibility of Black family life and is inspired by Black queer feminist traditions of kinship, mutual aid and community parenting.
Featured artists in HOMEPLACE include Jennica Drice, Amir Khadar and Willie Thomas, among others, ages 14 to 40+, from across the U.S., with works spanning painting, photography, collage, textile, poetry and film, examining how love, creativity, joy, advocacy and community become tools for healing, resistance and transformation.
The HOMEPLACE experience will kick off with an opening ceremony and celebration taking place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 2pm to 5pm at offTOP Design. The event is followed by a range of free and donation-based programming, including talks and workshops with featured artists, notable authors like Jamilah Lemieux and Anna Malaika Tubbs and community-based organizations providing space for conversation, creativity and connection.

Trina Greene, P4L founder and executive director says, “I envisioned a world where Black parents are doing the healing and political work so that our children can live abundantly and free from violence. I’m gratified with how the organization has evolved and sustained for 10 years.”

About Parenting For Liberation: P4L’s mission is to resource Black parents and help families heal from historic and ongoing trauma, disrupt intergenerational violence and create innovative solutions to build the power of Black communities to be joyful and self-determining. Through its podcast, accompanying book, Parenting For Liberation: A Guide for Raising Black Children, healing circles, retreats and community events, Parenting For Liberation has served and reached nearly 10,000 Black families nationally and internationally with programs and opportunities that strengthen Black families and disrupt generational harm.
About offTOP Design: offTOP is focused on the intersection of architecture, Black art, culture, and experience. We host educational programs for youth, public panel discussions, exhibitions for local artists, and promote health and wellness.
